Prior to 2004, Halaal monitoring in Zambia was carried out informally by Ulama serving the Muslim community. However, limited resources and increasing demand created the need for a formal Halaal authority.
Jamiah Islamiyyah Trust initiated a nationwide effort to study the Halaal industry and establish a reliable system for Halaal oversight, resulting in the formation of ZAMHA.
